Something I learned this weekend, while watching my daughter’s TV show on NHK called nihongo de asobo. The show likes to teach famous excerpts from Japanese literature, but also proverbs, which are important. My wife told me that they spent a lot of time in school growing up studying proverbs. This proverb was kind of cool to me:

大器晩成 (たいきばんせい)

Great talent matures late.

Learning this was very timely this weekend after talking with a fellow Japanese-language student about getting too old to learn. He stated that he read studies that showed adults learn faster than children if they learn correctly. So, while I wouldn’t say I have great talent (or even mediocre talent), it’s a nice reminder that I can still learn the language if I keep at it and don’t give up.
